Smart Basics was born from a simple frustration: why is it so hard to find great-quality essentials in South Africa without paying premium retail prices or waiting weeks for delivery?
We set out to change that. By curating the best home, kitchen, tech, personal care and security bundles specifically for South African households, we've created a store that delivers real value — every time.
Headquartered in Rietondale, Pretoria, we fulfil from four warehouses nationwide — Midrand, Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth — so your bundle arrives fast, no matter where you are in South Africa.

Shipping Information
Free Delivery — Always
Every order ships FREE via The Courier Guy — South Africa's most trusted courier. No minimum spend, no exceptions, no hidden fees. We deliver to all 9 provinces.
2–5 Working Days
Orders are fulfilled from the warehouse closest to you (Midrand, Cape Town, Durban or Gqeberha). Most major city orders arrive in 2–3 working days.
Physical Address Required
We require a physical street address for delivery. We cannot deliver to PO Boxes or Postnet addresses. Business addresses are accepted.
Tracking Included
You'll receive a tracking number via email once your order is dispatched. Track your parcel directly on The Courier Guy's website or app.
Delivery Coverage — All Provinces
Remote and outlying areas may take 1–2 additional working days. If you're unsure about your area, WhatsApp us at 082 209 3389 before ordering.
All our warehouses operate with backup power through any Eskom load shedding stage. Your order is always processed and shipped on time, regardless of the loadshedding schedule.
Return Policy
7-Day Return Window
We offer a 7-day return window from the date of delivery. To qualify for a return:
- The item must be unused and in its original condition
- All original packaging and accessories must be included
- You must have proof of purchase (order number)
- The return must be initiated within 7 days of delivery date
How to Initiate a Return

- Provide your order number and reason for return
- We will assess and respond within 1 business day
- If approved, we'll arrange collection via The Courier Guy at no cost to you
- Once received and inspected, your refund is processed within 5–7 business days
Damaged or Incorrect Items
If your order arrives damaged or we sent the wrong item, we sincerely apologise. Please:
- Photograph the damaged/incorrect item clearly
- WhatsApp us within 48 hours of delivery
- We will arrange a free replacement or full refund — your choice
- Return courier costs are covered by us in this case
Non-Returnable Items
The following items cannot be returned unless they are defective or incorrectly sent:
- Items that have been used, opened or had packaging removed
- Personal hygiene products
- Digital goods or downloadable software
- Items returned more than 7 days after delivery
Refund Processing
Approved refunds are processed to your original payment method within 5–7 business days of us receiving and inspecting the returned item. PayFast refunds may take a further 3–5 business days to reflect in your account depending on your bank.

These terms and conditions govern your use of www.smart-basics.com and any purchase made from Smart Basics (Pty) Ltd, registered in South Africa, headquartered at 215 Soutpansberg Road, Rietondale, Pretoria, Gauteng.
Product Descriptions & Pricing
- All prices are displayed in South African Rand (ZAR) and include VAT
- We strive to ensure product descriptions are accurate. If an error occurs, we will contact you before processing your order
- We reserve the right to change prices without notice
- Compare-at prices reflect the estimated retail value of items bought separately
Orders & Payment
- Orders are only confirmed once payment is successfully processed via PayFast
- We reserve the right to cancel orders in cases of pricing errors, out-of-stock items or suspected fraudulent transactions
- A tax invoice will be emailed to you upon successful payment
Delivery
Delivery timelines of 2–5 working days are estimates. While we fulfil the vast majority of orders within this window, Smart Basics cannot be held liable for courier delays outside our control (e.g. severe weather, national events). We will always communicate proactively if delays occur.
Consumer Protection Act (CPA)
Smart Basics operates in full compliance with the South African Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 (CPA). South African consumers have rights under the CPA including the right to return defective goods, the right to honest and accurate product information, and the right to fair and responsible marketing.
Electronic Communications and Transactions Act (ECT Act)
Our online store is conducted in accordance with the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002. All required disclosures are available on this page and in communications from Smart Basics.
Limitation of Liability
Smart Basics' liability is limited to the value of your order. We are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages. Nothing in these terms limits your statutory rights as a South African consumer under the CPA.
